What’s The Buzz? Spirit Of Jesus Heading to Michigan

In January 2020, the Bob Elliot-led Friends Communications of Michigan engineered a deal that sent a 6kw Class A FM serving such Mitten State communities as Jonesville and Hillsdale, due southeast of Battle Creek, to an Allen, Mich., based company headed by Bill Sours.

Now, Sours is making a small profit on his investment. This station is about to join the No. 2 licensee of FM radio stations in the U.S.

The property, known since spring 2021 as “BUZZ 102.5,” is WBZV-FM in Hudson, Mich.

Soon, it will be swapping “Jesus Is Just Alright” for either Worship Music or Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) tunes as Educational Media Foundation, the owner of KLOVE and Air1, is buying the station.

With Jon Yinger of Broadcast Properties LLC serving as the broker in this deal, a $285,000 purchase price was agreed upon.

That’s good news for Sours, as he paid $230,000 for WBZV through his Madsun Investments.

WBZV has had its present call letters since 2003, and from January 1995 is the original WMXE. Now-retired respected station owners Bruce and Sue Goldsen once managed that incarnation of WMXE.

What’s next for Sours, who was raised in the Hudson, Mich., area? RBR+TVBR hears he’s moving to Grand Rapids to be closer to his children. WBZV was Sours’ lone radio station, and the retired teacher made it a profitable investment.
