A Gray Television-owned station serving the Cape Girardeau, Mo.-Paducah, Ky., television market has gotten the FCC’s go-ahead to make a VHF-to-UHF shift, something in the digital television area that improves over-the-air reception of a TV station. But, time was running out, and as such needed FCC approval to negate the move.
That OK just came from the head of the Video Bureau.
A Petition for Rulemaking was submitted by Gray on June 7 seeking regulatory approval for a change to the Table of Allotments in Cape Girardeau for a facility used by KFVS-TV to digital Channel 11 from digital Channel 32, while retaining is PSIP of Channel 12.
A Notice of Proposed Rulemaking was released in late June, and no comments were received on the matter aside from those from Gray.
As such, Video Division Chief Barbara Kreisman is moving ahead with the plan, and the proceeding was terminated, allowing Gray to use VHF Channel 11 for its signal.
On May 17, 2021, the Bureau granted a petition for rulemaking submitted by Gray to substitute channel 32 for channel 11 at Cape Girardeau for KFVS-TV. Gray was also granted a Construction Permit to construct a facility on channel 32 at Cape Girardeau, but was unable to complete construction of the channel facility by the expiration date of June 23, 2024.
