A Class A FM radio station serving a portion of Virginia’s Appalachia region bordering Kentucky has been sold. Pending regulatory approval, it puts this facility in the hands of Somerset Educational Broadcasting Foundation.
That’s a bit different from the seller’s original plan, which involved a sale in 2024 that never closed.
According to a LMS filing awaiting FCC OK, WDIC-FM 92.1 in Clinchco, Va., has been sold by Dickenson County Broadcasting Corp., led by President Richard Edwards.
The sale will put WDIC in the hands of an organization overseen by David and Gwen Carr, and fellow trustee Carolyn Jones.
With Gary Smithwick of Smithwick & Belendiuk serving as legal counsel to the seller and Holland & Knight attorney Charles Naftalin representing the buyer, WDIC is heading to noncommercial status with its sale.
A $20,000 purchase price has been agreed to by the parties.
WDIC fell silent in February 2024, citing financial reasons, and again in September. It resumed operations one year later, preventing a license cancellation, after an approved sale of WDIC-FM to Majestic Mountain Broadcasting Inc. ended up in a non-consummation.
That failed deal was poised to bring in $185,000 to Edwards’ group. A $10,000 deposit was retained per the terms of that asset purchase agreement, signed in April 2024.
With the purchase of WDIC, Somerset will add the FM to the following group of properties it already owns:
