Here’s Your Own Quarterly Site Inspection Checklist

1

Here’s something we really hope your radio and TV stations can use in 2018. It’s one of the more popular handout sheets Media Information Bureau columnist Ken Benner uses while conducting ABIP inspections.

“Most stations are not even aware such an item is required to be completed quarterly and filed with the Engineers other non-public required filings, such as 854-R tower registration forms, EAS tests, proof of performances, etc.,” Benner says.

That’s why we’re pleased to open your eyes to this most-important document.

The document, which you may download by clicking here, includes key tasks in several categories: site inspection, anchor points, building inspection, tower lights, transmission system, tower structure, and a section devoted to “upon leaving site.”

The latter category includes the following tasks:

• Place all equipment back to its normal operating condition.
• Place the transmitter in “remote” mode.
• Place the remote control in “remote” mode.
• Ensure the Fax machine cabling (if you have one) is in itsnonnal state.
• Ensure the air conditioner is on.
• Place all other switches you may have used during testing back to the nonnal position.
• Leave log entries and/or copies for future reference.
• Securely latch the door.
• Lock the door padlock and cbcck to make sure it is closed.
• Lock the fence padlock and check to make sure they are closed.
• Lock the main padlock and check to make sure it is closed.

The checklist builds on Benner’s Dec. 28, 2017 column on what to do on an Alternative FCC Inspection Day.
