He’s been a member of the Board of Directors of the country’s preeminent media company superserving Black consumers since 2001.
Yet, on November 30, D. Geoffrey Armstrong stepped down from the board at Urban One, effective immediately.
Why?
Details are scant.
According to an SEC filing, Armstrong, who also served as Chairman of the Audit Committee of Urban One, tendered his resignation from the Board “in light of a potential conflict of interest with his other business interests.”
Urban One adds that his resignation was not the result of any dispute or disagreement between him and the company on any matter relating to Urban One’s operations, policies or practices.
Armstrong is currently Chief Executive Officer of 310 Partners, a private investment firm.
And, since November 2003 Armstrong has also been a director of Nexstar Broadcasting.
Beyond that, Armstrong has a rich career in radio.
From March 1999 through September 2000, Armstrong was CFO for AMFM Inc., purchased by iHeartMedia predecessor Clear Channel Communications in September 2000. Prior to that, he was COO and a director of Capstar Broadcasting Corp., which merged with AMFM.
Before that, Armstrong was a founder of SFX Broadcasting, which went public in 1993 under the late Robert F.X. Sillerman. He served as Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Officer, and a director until that company was sold in 1998.
