One of the stations is a Class B AM with an FM translator. The other is a Class D AM, also with an FM translator. They serve an area to the west of metropolitan Cleveland, and for fifty years had been associated with the Wilber family.
That’s no longer the case.
Lorie and Doug Wilber have closed on their sale of WDLW-AM in Lorain, Ohio; WOBL-AM in Oberlin, Ohio, and their two FM translators.
The buyers? Gary and Renee Tollett.
A purchase price is not publicly known.
The Morning Journal in Lorain, Ohio, on Monday (3/1) profiled the Wilbers, noting that they decided to retire and, thus, sell the stations that Doug’s father Harry Wilber founded in December 1971.
“We’re just getting to that age in life and we want to retire,” Doug Wilber told the newspaper. “We haven’t had much time to do anything else. I love golf, and last season, I didn’t get to hit a single ball. We’ll be able to do things we enjoy but didn’t have time to do.”
In selecting Tollett, the Wilbers chose a longtime station employee who aims to continue the present programming on both stations.
Said Doug Wilber, “They liked our model; and if it’s not broken then don’t fix it.”
