Four Salt Lake City broadcast television stations have become the latest over-the-air properties to begin offering ATSC 3.0 “next generation” digital broadcast TV signals.
As of today, NEXTGEN TV can be received by viewers in the Utah metropolis who may have new TV sets capable of receiving the signals.
It’s the latest launch in a West Coast market for NEXTGEN TV, and involves duopolies owned by Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Broadcast Group.
Specifically, ABC affiliate KTVX-4 in Salt Lake City, owned by Nexstar, and sibling KUCW-30 are broadcasting with the ATSC 3.0 signal. So are Sinclair-owned KUTV-2, the CBS affiliate, and unaffiliated sister KJZZ-14.
BitPath, which is developing new data broadcasting services that the stations expect to launch, led the planning and coordinated efforts across the four stations.
“We’re excited to bring this significant innovation to Salt Lake City, forever changing the way we use and think of broadcast television,” says Mark Aitken, SVP of Advanced Technology for Sinclair Broadcast Group.
Nexstar EVP/Chief Technology Officer Brett Jenkins adds, “The faster we deploy NEXTGEN TV, the faster we can begin delivering important upgrades for our viewers and advertisers—improving the visual experience, adding interoperability with the Internet and enabling more focused targeting of consumers.”
