Nexstar’s CW Network Unveils Its New Seven-Day Schedule

With the acquisition of The CW Network by Nexstar Media Group, the nation’s biggest owner of broadcast TV stations, a big overhaul of the prime-time programming skein has been seen.

With many shows not returning and the arrival of LIV golf on the network for weekend viewing growth, Nexstar founder and CEO Perry Sook is now ready to create a “Big Five” group of TV networks by unveiling The CW’s first-ever seven-day schedule.

The CW Network will launch its seven-night primetime schedule this autumn with what Nexstar is calling “a strategic mix of new and returning original scripted series and exciting new alternative programming.”

Those are the words of Brad Schwartz, President of Entertainment for The CW Network.

“This fall, The CW embarks on the first step to become bigger and broader by offering our viewers a wide variety of programming from premium adult dramas to bold comedies and binge-worthy unscripted franchises,” said Schwartz, even as the Writers Guild of America strike has impacted broadcast networks’ ability to feature prime-time shows at its Upfronts and SAG-AFTRA has authorized a strike for July 1 for its TV and Theatrical members.

What can viewers expect to see on The CW this fall? “All American” is back, while “61st Street,” “Sullivan’s Crossing” and “The Spencer Sisters” are new additions. Tuesday night is sitcom night for The CW, with popular CBC import “Son of a Critch” joined by “Run The Burbs, “Children Ruin Everything” and “Everyone Else Burns.”

Unscripted fare includes the arrival of “FBoy Island” to the network. Then, there’s the Sunday “family co-viewing” fare that begins with the “I AM” documentary film franchise.

“The new CW is now a broadcast network built for a broadcast audience,” Schwartz proclaimed.

“The Spencer Sisters” is a female-led, lighthearted procedural that follows mystery novelist
Victoria Spencer (Lea Thompson, Back to the Future, “Caroline in the City”) and her daughter Darby Spencer (Stacey Farber, “Superman & Lois,” “Schitt’s Creek”) who are mistaken as sisters as they tackle puzzling cases.

“Sullivan’s Crossing” sees Maggie Sullivan (Morgan Kohan, “Transplant,” “Batwoman”) as a star neurosurgeon who seemingly has it all, until her business partner is indicted for fraud and she finds herself charged with negligence. Looking to distance herself from the fallout, Maggie decides to leave Boston and return to her childhood home of Sullivan’s Crossing, a rustic and remote campground set against the stunning coastline still run by her estranged father, Sully Sullivan (Scott Patterson, “Gilmore Girls”).

Meanwhile, “Run The Burbs” follows the Phams, “a young, bold Vietnamese-South Asian family taking a different approach to living life to the fullest, while changing the way we think about contemporary family values and life in the burbs.”
