NBC has tied for #1 in adult 18-49 rating for the primetime week of November 12-18, marking the seventh time in eight weeks the network has ranked #1 in 18-49 so far this season (and 11th time in 12 weeks overall). It’s the first time in 10 years NBC has held a share of the lead for seven of the season’s first eight weeks.
NBC is up 14 percent in adults 18-49 versus the same week last year and matched or increased its year-ago rating in all other key categories.
Season to date, NBC is #1 in 18-49, marking the first time the network has ranked #1 outright at the point in the season in nine years (since 2003). NBC is up 23 percent in adults 18-49 (with a 3.2 average rating versus last year’s 2.6). In total viewers, NBC is up versus one year ago by 18 percent (8.7 million vs. 7.4 million). NBC is ahead of its year-ago season average by double-digit percentages in every key ratings category.
NBC delivered three of the week’s top six primetime programs on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49. “Sunday Night Football” ranked #1 for the week in adults 18-49, Monday’s “The Voice” was #4 and Tuesday’s “Voice” #6 (rankings exclude sports pre- and post-game shows). “Revolution” (tied for #19) was the #1 new drama of the week and “Go On” (tied for #29) was the #1 new comedy.
“Sunday Night Football” was the #1 primetime show of the week on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in total viewers; adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54; men 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54; and teens 12-17. Monday’s “Voice” was #1 on those networks in women 18-34 and kids 2-11.
For the season to date, NBC’s schedule features four of primetime’s top seven programs on the broadcast nets (“Sunday Night Football,” #1; Monday’s “The Voice,” #4; Tuesday’s “The Voice,” #5; and “Revolution” #7. NBC’s schedule features the #1 show overall (“SNF”), the #1 new drama and #2 drama overall on the broadcast networks (“Revolution,”), the #1 new comedy (“Go On”) and #1 Friday series (“Grimm”) (sports pre- and post-game shows are excluded from these rankings).
Primetime averages for the week of November 12-18 in adults 18-49 were: CBS, 2.5/7; NBC, 2.5/7; ABC, 2.2/6; Fox, 1.7/5; and CW, 0.7/2. In overall total viewers, the weekly averages were: CBS, 10.7 million; ABC, 8.1 million; NBC, 7.0 million; Fox, 4.5 million; and CW, 1.8 million.
Season to date averages through eight weeks are: NBC, 3.2/9; CBS, 2.8/8; ABC, 2.6/7; Fox, 2.4/7; and CW, 0.8/2. In overall total viewers, the season averages are: CBS, 11.7 million; ABC, 9.1 million; NBC, 8.7 million; Fox, 7.0 million; and CW, 1.8 million.
NBC highlights for the week of November 12-18
Monday: NBC finished #1 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox for the night in 18-49, winning six of six half-hours among those networks to give NBC eight consecutive in-season Monday wins for the first time in the 25-year history of Nielsen’s people meter sample.
“The Voice” (4.4 rating, 11 share in adults 18-49, 11.6 million viewers overall) delivered the #1 results of the night on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in adults 18-49, making it Monday’s top entertainment telecast for a 10th week in a row. The second live Monday “Voice” of the current cycle posted a 10 percent gain over last season’s second live Monday (4.4 vs. 4.0 on Monday, April 9).
At 10:01 p.m. ET, “Revolution” (2.6/7 in adults 18-49, 7.1 million viewers overall) ranked #1 in the time period among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in nearly all key demographics.
Tuesday: NBC won its sixth consecutive Tuesday in 18-49 among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, with the #1 show of the night, “The Voice” and the #1 drama on ABC, CBS or NBC at 10 p.m. ET, “Parenthood.” This is NBC’s longest in-season Tuesday winning streak in eight years (since November 16-December 21, 2004).
“The Voice” (3.9/11 in 18-49, 11.1 million viewers overall) delivered gains versus the comparable results show from its prior cycle of 11 percent in 18-49 rating and 24 percent in total viewers. The 3.9 rating is a “Voice” record for a non-finale Results Show in 18-49.
With their first telecasts in three weeks, “Go On” (2.2/6 in 18-49, 6.1 million viewers overall) retained 92 percent of its prior rating, “Parenthood” (1.9/5 in 18-49, 4.8 million in total viewers) maintained its full previous rating and “New Normal” (1.8/5 in 18-49, 4.7 million in total viewers) grew by 6 percent.
Wednesday: “Whitney” (1.4/4 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall) joined NBC’s Wednesday lineup with the network’s best 18-49 rating in the time period with comedy since premiere week. At 8:30 p.m. ET, “Guys With Kids” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 3.9 million viewers overall) delivered its biggest overall audience since October 17. At 9, “Law & Order: SVU” (1.7/4 in adults 18-49, 5.8 million viewers overall) built from its first half-hour to its second in every key ratings category. And at 10, “Chicago Fire” (1.6/4 in adults 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall) was the week’s only 10 p.m. drama on ABC, CBS and NBC to generate a half-hour to half-hour gain in 18-49.
Thursday: In men 18-34, “The Office” (2.1/5 in 18-49, 4.2 million viewers overall) tied for #1 in its half-hour among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox and “Parks and Recreation” (1.7/5 in 18-49, 3.5 million viewers overall) was #1 outright among those networks. “Rock Center” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall) delivered its second-biggest overall audience since September 20.
Friday: “Grimm” (1.6/5 in 18-49, 5.0 million viewers overall) locked up the #1 18-49 rating of the night for a scripted program on ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox.
Sunday: NBC led Sunday night among ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox in total viewers, households, adults 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, all key adult-male demos and women 18-49 and 25-54 with Ravens-Steelers “Sunday Night Football” (6.9/17 in 18-49, 18.2 million viewers overall, 11.0/17 in households).
