At Spot TV, It’s Suddenly QSR Activity Aflame

At Spot Radio and at Spot Cable, quick-service restaurants have long been one of the more active ad categories, as seen in Media Monitors Spot Ten reports. For the week ending August 27, a new trend was seen: notable activity at Spot TV from two big QSR brands.

As seen below, Wendy’s — which just had a big week at Spot Radio — is now No. 8 by play count as Spot TV. It is thanks to some 20,947 spot plays as determined by iHeartMedia-owned Media Monitors.

Meanwhile, just above with 21,917 spot plays is McDonald’s.

The other big takeaway is the week-over-week dip in auto dealer association ad activity, erasing a prediction that an end-of-the-month ad jump was underway. Now, it remains to be seen if Labor Day Weekend will bring a big increase in activity from a category still in recovery some three years after the COVID-19 pandemic’s darkest days.

How does the Spot Ten Cable report compare for the week ending August 27? As seen below, Domino’s is the top QSR. But, Wendy’s is at No. 5, indicating that it is committed to investments in cable and broadcast media at the moment. Meanwhile, Burger King is No. 9.
