It’s been under the spotlight, and some scrutiny, from media observers for months leading up to the acquisition of CBS News & Stations parent Paramount Global by Skydance Media. Now, the CBS Evening News has a new Executive Producer, and she’s rising through the ranks.
Earning the promotion is Kim Harvey, whom CBS News President/Executive Editor Tom Cibrowski notes is only the second woman to helm the newscast launched 77 years ago.
“Kim brings a sharp news sense and terrific track record of producing from across the broadcast and cable networks,” said Cibrowski. “She is a well-respected newsroom leader and her relationships with our on-air talent, producers and reporters run deep. Her career at the CBS Evening News makes her the ideal candidate and I’m pleased to continue working with her on showcasing our extraordinary reporting and storytelling every night.”
Harvey commented, “It’s a great honor to be entrusted with this role after nearly a decade working at the Evening News, beginning as a producer. I have great respect and admiration for those who steered this broadcast before me, and I am grateful to Tom and the team for their support. I look forward to leading our incredible group of journalists as we deliver the latest news, original reporting and memorable stories to our audience every night.”
Harvey has spent her entire CBS News career at the CBS Evening News, rising through the ranks from producer, senior producer to senior broadcast producer before taking on the top role. During her tenure at the broadcast, Harvey has produced for anchors John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois, Norah O’Donnell and Jeff Glor. She has also produced for virtually every CBS News national correspondent.
Harvey joined CBS News in 2017 and before that spent 16 years in editorial and production at cable TV news and political chat outlets MSNBC, Fox News and CNN. In fact, Harvey was part of the team that launched MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” in 2008 and panel-driven news and opinion show “All in with Chris Hayes” in 2013.
Harvey began her television career at CNN as a video journalist at the network’s headquarters in Atlanta.
