His experience included a role as General Sales Manager for Nationwide Communications’ Baltimore radio stations from November 1989 through September 1995 and, immediately after that, serving as Market Manager for Clear Channel Media + Entertainment’s radio stations in the market for more than 11 years.
He’d later work at Comcast Spotlight and since September 2014 has been associated with a digital and programmatic ad-focused business headquartered in Philadelphia. Now, many in the Mid-Atlantic Region are pausing to remember the life of Jim Dolan.
Dolan was 72 years of age. A Washington, D.C., area native, Dolan would enter the broadcast media industry at an early age while earning a B.A. in English Literature at Columbia University. As part of the Class of 1975, he served as General Manager of student-run WKCR-FM in an era when Album-Oriented Rockers WNEW and WPLJ were competing for college-age radio listeners against WXLO “99X.”
Early career stops included stations in Washington and in San Diego. Some 36 years ago, he joined Country WPOC-FM, then-owned by Nationwide. Dolan would rise from Local Sales Manager to General Sales Manager, and ultimately would become GM of that station ahead of running WPOC and the rest of the stations in a cluster that is now under the iHeartMedia umbrella.
At WPOC, Dolan was named one of Streamline Publishing-owned Radio Ink’s “Top Managers in Radio” for three consecutive years. Additionally, he served as Chairman of the Baltimore/D.C./Delaware Broadcasters Association and sat on the Arbitron Advisory Council.
In February 2007, Dolan would shift from radio sales to cable television advertising by becoming Regional Sales Manager for Comcast Spotlight. In his nearly six years there, he helped increase dollars tied to ESPN’s Monday Night Football and led a staff of 10.
In March 2013, he’d return to Radio for a short stint as General Sales Manager of Adult Hits WBEN-FM 95.7 in Philadelphia under Greater Media ownership. It was in September 2014 that he took the role of EVP/Revenue Strategies and Digital Account Manager at Enradius.
Most recently, he was building The Delaware Ad Network, extending local reach for brands and communities. Dolan also worked closely with the Vince Benedetto-owned Bold Gold Media Group, which has properties in the Poconos and Catskill Mountain Region to the north of Philadelphia.
