‘Law & Order’, ‘Dateline NBC’ capture season high viewers

At 8 p.m. ET, “Law & Order” (1.7 rating, 8 share in adults 18-49, 8.8 million viewers overall) matched its highest regular-slot rating this season in 18-49 and captured a season high in total viewers.  “Law & Order” improved on NBC’s average in this time period during the traditional 2008-09 season by 42% in 18-49 (1.7 vs. 1.2) and 99% in total viewers (8.775 million vs. 4.417 million).   
In the time period, “Law & Order” was #1 among the major networks in all key ratings categories — adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, plus total viewers. 


At 9 p.m. ET, “Dateline NBC” (2.0/6 in adults 18-49, 9.3 million viewers overall) reported the #1 results of the night on any network in adults 18-49 and total viewers.  In the time period, “Dateline NBC” ranked #1 among the major networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54, total viewers and most other key ratings categories.

This is “Dateline NBC’s” highest Friday 18-49 rating since June 26 and biggest overall Friday viewership since March 28, 2008. 

From 10-11 p.m. ET, “The Jay Leno Show” averaged a 1.5/5 in adults 18-49, a 1.9/6 in adults 25-54 and 5.8 million viewers overall.  Competition in the time period included CBS’s “Numb3rs” encore and ABC’s “20/20.”  This is “Jay Leno’s” top Friday rating in 18-49 in 11 weeks (since September 25) and biggest overall Friday audience in seven weeks (since October 23).  In the time period, “Jay Leno” ranked #2 among the major networks in adults 18-49, adults 25-54 and total viewers and #1 among all key adult-male demos — men 18-34, men 18-49 and men 25-54.

Versus the prior Friday, “The Jay Leno Show” was up 25% in 18-49 rating (1.5 vs. 1.2), up 27% in 25-54 rating (1.9 vs. 1.5) and up 25% in total viewers (5.841 million vs. 4.680 mil).

Comparisons with Jay Leno’s 2008-09 average at 11:35 p.m. ET on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” are: in adults 18-49, 1.5 vs. 1.4; adults 25-54, 1.9 vs. 1.8; and total viewers, 5.8 million vs. 5.1 million.  Comparisons with NBC’s Monday-through-Friday 10-11 p.m. ET non-sports average over the 52 weeks prior to Jay’s debut are: in adults 18-49, 1.5 vs. 2.2; adults 25-54, 1.9 vs. 2.7; and total viewers, 5.8 million vs. 6.9 million.

For the week of  November 16-20, “The Jay Leno Show” is currently reporting its best weeklong averages in 18-49 and total viewers (1.7 rating in 18-49, 5.7 million viewers overall) in 10 weeks, since the week of September 28-October 2 (pending updates, includes preliminary Friday results).

NBC is #1 for the night in adults 18-49, total viewers and most other key ratings categories.

In Late-Night Local People Meters Friday night:

Conan O’Brien (1.0/4 in 18-49 in local people meters) defeated CBS’s LATE SHOW (0.8/3) in Nielsen’s 24 local markets with People Meters.

At 12:35 a.m., Jimmy Fallon (0.6/3 in 18-49 in local people meters with an encore) topped CBS’s original LATE LATE SHOW (0.5/2).

In metered-market households, TONIGHT’s 2.4/5 is its highest household rating in the 56 local markets metered by Nielsen since September 18.
