The CBS News & Stations property in the Dallas-Fort Worth market branded as “CBS News Texas” on Tuesday morning brought to viewers for the first time its first local newscast that uses the virtual reality and augmented reality technology already put to the test in other markets, including San Francisco.
KTVT-11 debuted the AR/VR-enhanced local newscasts at 11am on October 14, with anchor Karen Borta standing in front of a giant green screen offering the latest updates from Gaza and Israel. Later in the newscast, meteorologist Brittany Rainey delivered a weather forecast that took full advantage of the technology.
The newscast, notably, did not include a full sports report but instead included a “CBSDeals.com” infomercial segment pitching Audien hearing aids.
For CBS News Texas, the debut of AR and VR “marks a significant step forward” for the team.
“This new technology allows us to fully immerse our audience in the story, delivering news and weather with unprecedented depth and clarity,” it said. “We’re committed to leading the future of local broadcasting.”
