It airs on Channel 44 for those with over-the-air digital antennas and enjoys Cable Channel 12 across many MVPDs serving the San Francisco Bay Area. It is a property formerly known as KBCW, with a call letter change coming in September 2023 to better align itself with its CBS-owned sibling.
Now, CBS News & Stations faces a small financial penalty for failing to adhere to a FCC rule.
KPYX-TV in San Francisco has been handed a proposed fine in the amount of $3,000 for being late with the upload of its programs/issues files to the FCC’s online database.
What prompted Barbara Kreisman, Chair of the Media Bureau’s Video Division, to fine the property? It uploaded one issues/programs list over six months late and five issues/programs lists over one year late.
This became known to the Media Bureau in a license renewal application for KPYX-TV. In it, licensee “San Francisco Television Station KBCW Inc.” (the CBS-aligned unit that is tied to KPYX-TV) states that the documents were filed in a timely manner, but inadvertently uploaded to the incorrect folder. That said, the Video Division’s Chief, Barbara Kriesman handed KPYX-TV the fine as CBS did not provide specifics as to the location of the misfiled documents and Bureau staff was unable to independently locate the misfiled documents in the station’s OPIF.
