Its call letters reflect the first owner and GM of the radio brand serving Denver. From June 1965 through April 1994, it had been at 105.9 MHz. From that date through late December 2017, it could be found at 106.7 MHz.
Today, Bill Pierson’s legacy lives on via a 250-watt FM translator covering Denver, but not nearby Boulder, Evergreen or Longmont. Still, iHeartMedia has continued to attract listeners to Active Rock “KBPI,” and an asset purchase agreement filed with the FCC indicates it plans to continue to do so for the foreseeable future.
K300CP at 107.9 MHz in Denver is being acquired by iHeartMedia, which has been operating the facility via a LMA with Hope Media Group.
That’s the religious broadcaster that operates KSBJ and WayFM with Tim Dukes as Chief Operations Officer.
With Jet’s “Cold Hard Bitch,” airing at 10:54am local time today, having iHeart own the Active Rocker outright may be praiseworthy for Hope Media Group in numerous ways.
From a financial standpoint, Hope Media Group will earn $500,000 from the sale of K300CP, with EVP/Engineering & Systems Jeff Littlejohn signing off on the APA for iHeartMedia.
The iHeartMedia/Denver station group is comprised of nine brands, including “Talkradio” KHOW-AM, News/Talk KOA-AM and its FM translator, Conservative Talk KDFD-AM and its FM translator, Country KWBL-FM “106.7 The Bull,” KDHT-FM “Hits 95.7,” Adult Hits KBCO-FM, Alternative KTCL “Channel 93.3,” and Classic Rock KRFX “103.5 The Fox.”
According to the FCC filing, K300CP will air programming from a digital multicast signal associated with KDHT. That’s the originating facility of the “KBPI” brand.
