He’s the General Manager of his family’s Milwaukee radio assets. On May 7, he signed off on an asset purchase agreement with an effective date of June 1 that makes Bustos Media — pending FCC approval — the owner of an FM translator that has, until now, served as a competitor.

W250BN at 97.9 MHz, with signal coverage of greater Milwaukee and program origination from the HD3 feed of WMYX-FM, is being sold by El Sol Broadcasting LLC to the company founded by iconic Hispanic media leader Amador Bustos.

An $800,000 purchase price has been agreed upon by the parties, with all funds wired to the seller at closing by Bustos.

El Sol is led by John Torres, and circa 2019 had been using W250BN as a FM home of “Radio Caliente” . At the time, WJTI-AM was feeding W250BN. On September 13, 2024, El Sol agreed to sell WJTI and W273DQ at 102.5 MHz, another FM translator used for “Radio Caliente,” to The Family Radio Network for $850,000.

While the sale marks the end of Torres’ run in local radio ownership, the Hispanic community will be retaining a format and presentation focused on Spanish-speaking audiences in greater Milwaukee, as W250BN will be paired with WDDW-FM 104.7 and its three HD multicast offerings; WDDW HD2 can be heard via an FM translator at 93.7 MHz.
