He’s an individual who leads a production house for independent motion pictures born out of a white label commercial creator for advertising agencies’ benefit. In recent years, he’s also become an owner of broadcast radio and TV stations. Now, he’s selling an AM with an FM translator in California’s Coachella Valley.
The buyer is a veteran broker.
Louie Comella and his IVOX Radio, a subsidiary of his IVOX Media, together with Broadcast Media Networks Ltd., has agreed to sell KKGX-AM 920 and K256CU at 99.1 MHz in Palm Springs, Calif.
KKGX, a Class B facility with 5kw from 2 towers during daytime hours and 1kw from 4 towers at night, and its FM translator companion are being acquired by Radioforsale LLC.
That’s an entity in which George Kimble has 49% ownership, while The Kimble Family Trust holds the remaining 51% interest in the limited liability company.
Speaking with RBR+TVBR, Comella made it clear that he’s keeping the KKGX call letters and intellectual property associated with the unique station, which airs programming from the BBC World Service and PRX. That spoken word programming will now be integrated into the eclectic Adult Alternative format of KWXY-AM 1340 in Cathedral City, Calif., and FM translator partner K222DA at 92.3 MHz. Specifically, the informational programming will air in overnight hours while top-of-the-hour newscasts from the BBC will replace the current newscasts on KWXY.
IVOX Radio is earning $60,000 from the sale of the AM and FM translator, with a $15,000 escrow deposit already paid. Additional funds of $30,000 have been loaned to the seller secured by a Promissory Note.
Serving as Kimble’s legal counsel is veteran communications law specialist James Oyster.
Comella, an Executive Producer and Media Financier who has put his dollars into independent films, directors, producers, artists and entertainment, in March 2021 agreed to purchase the licenses and real estate associated with KKGX, K256CU, KWXY and K222DA. Today, he tells RBR+TVBR that the real prize in that transaction was KWXY’s vintage offices and studios, home to his production business. “I’m not in the radio business,” he says. “I’m in the production business and purchased the KWXY studio building as a TV / Film production studio.”
