Gray Grabs Bill Christian’s Western Mass. Move-In

Gray Television has taken a liking to low-power TV stations for use as a DMA fill-in property, and for the coming broadcast internet opportunities tied to the conversion of stations to the ATSC 3.0 broadcast standard.

The company based in Atlanta is buying another one. This time, it is a digital low-power facility serving the biggest cities in Western Massachusetts.

Gray has agreed to purchase WWAX-LD 27, licensed to tiny Westmoreland, N.H., from Bill Christian-led Triple Seven Media.

Where is Westmoreland? It is nestled just east of the Connecticut River to the northeast of Brattleboro, Vt., and just to the west of Keene, N.H. Importantly, it is not far north of the Springfield, Mass., market, and that is what makes it of interest to Gray, says Greg Guy of Patrick Communications. He served as Christian’s broker of record in the transaction.

Gray is paying $900,000 for the facility, with $27,000 going directly to Patrick Communications at closing.

Christian’s legal counsel in this counsel is Mark Denbo of Smithwick & Belendiuk.

Christian is considered to be a LPTV pioneer, and his work with Mike Reed in Lafayette, Ind., received coverage by RBR+TVBR numerous time between 2017 and 2020. In April 2020, they became 50/50 partners in Triple Seven Media.
