From L.A. TV News To The U.S. Senate?

A woman who once offered news reports to Los Angeles television news viewers on Wednesday offered some breaking news of her own: She’s running for the United States Senate.

“It’s time to stop the fighting in Washington, and focus on reaching across the aisle to put people over politics,” says Christina Pascucci. “I believe in the promise of California.”

Consider it a long-shot bid to take the seat held by the late Dianne Feinstein by Pascucci, who spent nearly 11 years as an anchor and reporter at KTLA-5 in Los Angeles before joining KTTV-11, the FOX Television Stations property serving the market.

Pascucci left KTTV on October 17. Speaking to Politico, Pascucci, who is 38 years old, would enter a field of candidates that now includes former Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres great Steve Garvey. She describes herself as a Democrat, noting that she is a “truth-seeker” who would focus on legislating, applying the same approach she did to newsgathering.

Pascucci is an expectant mother. While she’s starting a Senate race some 18 weeks into her pregnancy, Pascucci told Politico, “The only thing crazier than not jumping in this late would be not jumping in at all, because I have to fight for what I believe is possible for California and for this country.”

At present, those in front in polling include Democratic U.S. Reps. Adam Schiff, Katie Porter and Barbara Lee. Meanwhile, it is unclear if Sen. Laphonza Butler, who is currently occupying Feinstein’s seat, will seek election. Butler was selected by California Gov. Gavin Newsom to fill Feinstein’s role in Senate until the election.
