An FM threesome stacked to the east of Tulsa OK is headed to a new owner in a deal that confirms the wisdom of the seller, which was the buyer of the same trio only two years back. Broker: Doug Ferber, DEFcon Advisors LLC (seller)
The stations are KTFR-FM Chelsea OK, KEMX-FM Locust Grove OK and KCXR-FM Taft OK.
The seller is ABS Communications Inc., headed by President Roger Chasteen.
The buyer is Key Plus Broadcasting LLC, owned 50-50 by Jose Esteban Torres and Jose D. Moguel.
The price is $800,000 cash.
Key already owns KXTD-AM Wagoner OK.
It’s a great deal for seller ABS – it acquired the stations pursuant to a 4/22/13 contract for $500,000, giving ABS a face-value profit of $300,000.
KTFR-FM Chelsea OK is a Class A on 100.5 MHz with 6 kW @ 328’. It’s located northeast of town.
KEMX-FM Locust Grove OK is a Class A on 94.5 MHz with 2.3 kW @ 367’. It’s located to the east of Tulsa. Its outermost contour gets about half of the city.
KCXR-FM Taft OK is a Class A on 100.3 MHz with 3.9 kW @ 410’. It’s centered to the southeast of Tulsa, from whence it manages to blanket Muskogee while covering Tulsa with its outer contours.
Pre-owned KXTD-AM Wagoner OK is a Class D on 1530 kHz with 5 kW-D, DAD. It’s oriented to the east of Tulsa, it manages to cover most of the market, as long as the sun is up.
RBR+TVBR observation: We think deals this are a very good sign for the industry. If operators are able to increase the value of hard radio assets, especially in such a brief time span, it’s a great indicator of general health and well-being. With any luck, this sort of deal will become the new norm.
