He began his broadcast career in 1965 at WINS Radio in New York, immediately after dropping Top 40 for a pioneering all-News format. A decade later, he was a producer for NBC Radio’s ambitious but ultimately unsuccessful News and Information Service (NIS), moving onward to higher levels of leadership within NBC Radio News. By the time he retired in 2013, he had spent 17 years as VP of News and Programming at what is today the top-billing radio station in the U.S.

Now, many across the broadcast media industry are pausing to pay tribute to Jim Farley, who died of a heart attack while undergoing surgery for an aneurysm. He was 75, WTOP shared following a newsroom announcement made Tuesday morning.
