The audio media company focused on the U.S. Hispanic consumer founded by José Villafañe has hired an individual who most recently served as President/CEO of Hispanic digital media brand MundoNow as its Chief Innovation Officer.
Taking the post is René Alegría, an individual who in March 2024 forged a partnership between Mundo Hispano Digital and iHeartMedia, one that brought podcasts produced by MundoNow’s audio network, Oyénos, to the iHeartPodcasts distribution platform.
Alegría exited his position at MundoNow in December, and says it was “just time.” He was a one-third partner in the entity. In September 2018, Los Angeles-based investor Marcos Gonzalez and ex-Georgia State Senator Sam Zamarripa teamed to acquire what had been known as Mundo Hispánico from Cox Media Group.
“We are thrilled to welcome Rene to Nueva Network,” said Jose Villafañe, Founder and CEO of Nueva Network. “Rene’s unparalleled expertise and vision will be instrumental as we continue to expand our reach and redefine the audio media landscape. His innovative approach and passion for amplifying Latino voices align perfectly with our mission to connect audiences and brands in meaningful ways.”
As Chief Innovation Officer at Nueva Network, Villafañe will spearhead the development of what the company calls “transformative strategies and cutting-edge opportunities that
continue to amplify Latino voices and meet the evolving demands of diverse audiences.”
Alegria commented, “I’m excited to join Nueva Network at such a pivotal moment. Latino
audiences are reshaping the cultural landscape, and Nueva Network is uniquely positioned to lead in delivering compelling, authentic content that speaks to the heart of our community. Together, we will push the boundaries of what’s possible in media innovation.”
Alegria has a background that started in the publishing industry, with roles as Associate Managing Editor at Simon & Schuster from April 1995-April 1999 before a 13-month stint as Managing Editor of HarperCollins. From March 2002-February 2010, he was Publisher and Founder of the Rayo U.S. Hispanic division of HarperCollins.
