WASHINGTON, D.C. — He’s been heralded as “an industry change-maker and strategic operator.” Now, this individual is in the role of Chief Data and Analytics Officer and Head of Measurement at Comscore.
With a career spanning agency, research, publishing, and client leadership, Frank Friedman will oversee the publicly traded audience measurement company’s data governance, drive currency adoption efforts, and develop tailored measurement playbooks for a variety of customers.
Friedman is inbound from The E.W. Scripps Company, where he negotiated the broadcast TV station ownership group’s first agreement with Comscore. Friedman shared on LinkedIn that he would be leaving Scripps at the end of 2024.
“With a heart of gratitude, mixed with sadness, I announce my journey with Scripps will end on 12/31/24,” he posted in November 2024. “I’ve enjoyed every moment, agitating and challenging convention in an industry that is ripe for change. So many media companies are downsizing or offering early retirement incentives. As I ponder my next move, it seemed the right time to let the next generation of leaders step up and push us forward.”
The pondering didn’t last long, as Comscore Chief Executive Officer Jon Carpenter is now “delighted” to welcome Friedman to the C-Suite. “Frank has consistently been at the forefront of challenging convention and implementing disciplined strategies to drive change, and we are excited to bring his perspective to our organization during this stage of our transformation,” Carpenter said.
Friedman is based in Jacksonville, Fla., and relocated from Cincinnati in March 2023. Before joining Scripps in June 2018, he spent 17 months as President of Local Investment at Publicis Media. Before that, Friedman enjoyed a 3 1/2-year tenure at Zenith, rising to EVP and Director of Local Investment from a Toronto-based role as Canada CEO. For nearly a decade before that, from August 2003-June 2013, he served in increasing roles of importance at Optimedia, exiting as EVP/Managing Director and head of operations.
Earlier roles include that of Media Manager for defunct electronics retailer Circuit City from 1996-1997. From June 1985-January 1992, Friedman was a senior planner/buyer at famed advertising agency Wieden + Kennedy in Portland, Ore.
The naming of Friedman to the roles follows the appointment earlier this month of digital and programmatic pro Jackelyn Keller as Comscore’s Chief Marketing Officer.
