MIAMI — The only woman serving as an FCC Commissioner will be participating in a roundtable discussion at Florida International University on Wednesday afternoon with a Federal Trade Commission Commissioner and five key U.S. broadcast media executives to discuss and debate “barriers to entry” for Hispanic and Latino media.
Anna M. Gómez, the junior Democrat serving as a Commissioner at the FCC, and FTC Commissioner Alvaro Bedoya will convene the symposium scheduled for 2:30pm in Room 1000 of Rafael Diaz Balart Hall on the main FIU campus in West Miami, in the College of Law Large Courtroom.
The purpose of the gathering is “to explore the market dynamics affecting the success and sustainability of Hispanic/Latino-serving media organizations.”
The event, which the university is providing a live stream link to, is poised to offer insights from key industry leaders on the unique challenges facing both local and national Spanish-language broadcasters and content creators.
These leaders are comprised of Spanish Broadcasting System founder and Chairman/CEO Raúl Alarcón Jr.; TelevisaUnivision EVP and Chief Research Officer Roberto Ruiz; NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises Sr. VP of Research, Strategy & Insights Federico Garza; Entravision Chief Governmental Affairs Officer Marcelo Gaete; and Latino Media Network co-founder and executive board chair Stephanie Valencia.
The panelists are expected to address issues such as audience measurement, the impact on competitive viability, and the broader implications for Latino representation in all aspects of our media landscape.
The event is scheduled for 90 minutes.
