FCC Expands Audio Description Requirements

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The FCC last week, ahead of its Open Meeting, unanimously adopted rules that will expand the Commission’s audio description mandate. This means television stations in all Nielsen Designated Market Areas will need to comply by 2035.


In particular, under the FCC’s new rule, stations in certain markets are required to provide audio-described programming as soon as January 1, 2025. Three Wiley attorneys explain what this could mean for your broadcast TV station.
