For those attending the European trade show IBC2022, the planet’s second-largest broadcast media technology expo, a visit to ENCO‘s booth will yield demonstrations of the fifth generation of the Novi, Mich.-based company’s AI-enhanced enCaption automated captioning and transcription product.

ENCO will be at stand 8.C75 at IBC2022 in Amsterdam from September 9-12

Product enhancements include a new, cloud-native architecture; a redesigned user interface; integrated caption editing; expanded multi-language translation capabilities; and a new open API for seamless integration.

The product is used by broadcasters to create transcripts and add closed or open captions to both live and pre-recorded content. According to ENCO, enCaption5 has been redeveloped as a cloud-native solution that can be deployed on-premises or in hybrid on-prem/cloud workflows.

The latter is of benefit for customers who need SDI signal connectivity for live captioning or who prefer an on-premises solution.

According to ENCO, enCaption5’s automated captioning power is accessed through the software’s redesigned, web-based user interface. “In addition to offering a modernized look and selectable light/dark modes to adapt to different usage environments, the intuitive new UI allows users to remotely control enCaption5 through a browser from anywhere – whether down the hall or across the country,” the company says.

The newly enhanced enTranslate automated translation plug-in for enCaption5 lets TV broadcasters offer subtitles and secondary or tertiary closed captions in alternative languages to expand their audiences. Among the new bonus features is unit conversion – such as metric to imperial measurements – with conversions automatically performed based on source and target languages.

ENCO says enTranslate supports over 50 languages including English, French, and Spanish.

“Captioning, subtitling, and transcription are increasingly important for broadcasters even beyond regulatory requirements,” ENCO President Ken Frommert says. “In addition to making content more inclusively accessible for hard-of-hearing audiences, these functions also make it accessible to non-native-language speakers and the significant percentage of viewers who watch video on their mobile devices with the sound muted. enCaption5 makes deploying and using automated captioning easier and more cost-effective than ever before, and we’re looking forward to showcasing it to IBC attendees.”
