Electronics Marketer Handed Proposed $1.2 Million FCC Fine

NEW YORK — One year ago, a longtime Gotham home electronics store located one block west of Madison Square Garden received word from the FCC that it was selling FM transmitters either using unauthorized frequencies or simply lacking Commission certification.

Now the Commission has handed a Notice of Apparent Liability for Forfeiture to a Brooklyn-based online retailer offering audio and video electronics and accessories to the public. Among the goods on the Sound Around website are 33 unauthorized, noncompliant radio frequency devices.

The proposed fine of significant size also comes after the online retailer failed to comply with FCC orders.
