WBD To Merge With Lewis Roca, Creating Legal Giant

WASHINGTON, D.C. — It had been the home of veteran communications law attorney Gregg Skall and is the firm with associated with retired FCC attorney John Garziglia. Now, Womble Bond Dickinson is growing, thanks to a merger with another law firm.


Effective January 1, 2025, Lewis Roca will be combining with WBD, in a move touted for having “strong roots” and a “bold future.”

Lewis Roca and WBD are each large, multi-practice law firms, and the merger creates a multinational organization comprised of more than 1,300 attorneys in 37 offices in the United States and the United Kingdom.

“The combination will provide clients with enhanced capabilities across practices and sectors, as well as the resources of an expansive geographic platform,” the law firms state, noting that Womble’s presence in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions helps to broaden Lewis Roca’s reach nationwide.

The new firm will operate as Womble Bond Dickinson (US) under the leadership of Chair and CEO Merrick Benn and Vice Chair Kenneth Van Winkle.

Based on gross revenue, which totals more than $742 million, the combined firm would have ranked 70th on the 2024 Am Law 100.

Among the attorneys currently in the Communications, Technology and Media practice at WBD are Partners F. Reid Avett, Robert Silverman and Alexandre de Gramont.
