DirecTV Adds The CW For Streamers In Four More Markets

Over the last several weeks, direct broadcast satellite service provider DirecTV has been bringing affiliates of The CW Network to those who subscribe to its vMVPD streaming-based offerings on a market-by-market basis.

On Tuesday, four additional markets were added to the mix.

As of today, Gray Television-owned KNCT-46 in the Waco-Temple-Bryan, Tex., DMA and sibling WTVG-13.2 in Toledo, Ohio are now available on the DirecTV streaming local channel lineups in those markets.

At the same time, Sinclair Broadcast Group-owned WSTM-3.2 in Syracuse is now available in that DMA to DirecTV streaming customers.

The same can be said for News-Press & Gazette Co.’s KVIA-7.2 in El Paso.

This follows a May 7 announcement from DirecTV that four Gray Television stations were now available to streaming customers in Charleston-Huntington, W. Va.; Madison, Wisc.; Springfield, Mo.; and Wichita, Kansas.

Prior to that, on April 18, stations owned by a variety of companies that are affiliates of The CW network were added to the local channel lineup for those who rely on DirecTV’s vMVPD service.

Streaming carriage agreements for The CW are negotiated by Nexstar on behalf of its local affiliates. “The individual station owners then decide whether they want to opt into the agreement or not,”  a DirecTV spokesperson said. “As they do, we will create batches of stations and then launch several together, working our way through the various DMAs that might be missing an affiliate.”
