The FCC’s Media Bureau has been chatting about ATSC 3.0 and a “mandate” for it to replace the 25-year old ATSC 1.0 technology — an NAB proposal championed by broadcast TV station owners being fought by the Consumer Technology Association and various anti-tax advocacy groups. In one recent discussion, a question arose about comments from “a relatively small number of consumers” who had complained about being unable to access NEXTGEN TV signals, delivered via ATSC 3.0 technology.
A “rip-and-replace” edict in the name of National Security may be to blame.
