As controversy around AI legislation arises from President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill,” the U.S. House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology has scheduled a hearing tomorrow (6/3) focusing on how artificial intelligence is reshaping communications.
The hearing, led by House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Congressman Brett Guthrie (R-KY-02) and Subcommittee Chairman Congressman Richard Hudson (R-NC-09), will explore current uses of AI across industries and assess how emerging technologies may challenge the capacity and regulatory framework of the nation’s digital networks.
Included in Trump’s sweeping reconciliation package is a $500 million federal initiative aimed at modernizing government systems through AI and automation. The plan also contains a controversial provision that would prohibit states from enacting or enforcing their own AI regulations, overriding existing oversight measures in dozens of states.
“Artificial intelligence is launching our economy into a new American golden age marked by development and opportunity, but these increasingly dynamic industries need certainty that our networks can support the future of artificial intelligence and its applications,” said Congressman Guthrie and Congressman Hudson in a joint statement.
Titled AI in the Everyday: Current Applications and Future Frontiers in Communications and Technology, the hearing is scheduled for June 4 at 10:30 AM ET in Room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. It will be open to the public and streamed live on the committee’s website.
Witnesses are expected to include industry executives and policy experts, who will provide insight into how AI is reshaping telecommunications, infrastructure needs, and federal oversight.
