It is a Class D AM radio station with a 500-watt daytime signal audible across lower Westchester County; the Bronx and Queens; and northern Nassau County, N.Y. It can also be heard in parts of Bergen County, N.J., and until two years was the first station linked to Whitney Global Media — the enterprise led by the late Bill O’Shaughnessy.
Now, the current owner of this kHz-band facility is saying goodbye to WVOX-AM 1460.
An asset purchase agreement has been submitted for FCC approval for the transfer of the station in New Rochelle, N.Y., from Jeff Chang to Omega Vision Network.
A $77,000 purchase price has been agreed upon, with a $4,750 deposit paid to Sterling BCG.
Chang, who is based in Beverly Hills, Calif., used the legal services of Kathleen Victory at Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth to handle the FCC affairs.
Serving as the broker in this transaction is Beth Griffin of Griffin Media Partners.
With the May 28, 2022 death of O’Shaughnessy, an icon of New York Tri-State Area broadcasting, some 55 years of locally focused broadcasting came to its conclusion, as WVOX’s sibling, WVIP-FM 93.5, was sold to Hope Media Group and converted to a non-secular facility. Chang became the owner of WVOX through the assistance of the Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council (MMTC), which received WVOX in a donation.
