Caught between government agencies

Cumulus Media had appealed the 10K fine handed down by the FCC for “willful and repeated” failure to clean and repaint the antenna structure for WBMQ-AM Savannah, GA. Cumulus had argued that it tried to dismantle the offending structure after relocating the station’s transmitter to another site, but was held up getting needed permits from other agencies. That didn’t wash with the Commission, which noted that Cumulus didn’t make any effort to bring the antenna site into compliance until it was cited by an FCC inspector about three and a half years after acquiring the station. The 10K fine stands.
