Radio and Television Transactions

Roseland Broadcasting, led by Julie Huang and Matt Davidge, is picking up two low-power TV stations in concurrent deals filed with the FCC for regulatory approval on Wednesday. One is in Aspen, Colo. The other is in South Dakota.

One month ago, a radio broadcasting company led by David Rowell signed off on an asset purchase agreement that will give it ownership of a Class B FM located between Victoria and metropolitan Houston, Tex. Now, Rowell's buying a second FM in the region, a 100kw Class C1 property licensed to Bay City, Tex., covering the same areas as the Class B property.

It's a 1kw Class C AM licensed to Sparks, Nev., with a city-grade signal of Reno and coverage of much of the Nevada state capital, Carson City. It boasts an FM translator with a directional signal pointing toward Incline Village, Nev. Both are now heading to a new owner, pending FCC approval.

In mid-December 2021, the leaders of Spanish Independent Broadcast Network opted to part ways with its low-power television station serving the Valley of the Sun. The transaction has now closed, awarding the property to a company that two years ago snagged a LPTV facility serving Arizona's Verde Valley.

In mid-February, a licensee led by Darrell E. Martin agreed to sell the real estate and broadcast assets associated with a Class D AM daytimer with a 2kw signal from 3 towers licensed to Lockhart, Tex. Now, the transaction has successfully closed.

A trio of FM radio stations left for dead following Hurricane Michael in October 2018 are poised to be transferred to their fourth owner in four years. Based on paperwork filed with the FCC, the deal is a bit of a fire sale, at a value significantly lower than what the seller paid for them prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It may be far from the Las Vegas Strip and closer to St. George, Utah than the Bellagio, but the city of Mesquite is within the Las Vegas DMA. Thus, having a low-power TV station in the burgh along Interstate 15 may be of interest to some. Count Scott Centers among those that see value in such a property, as he's just bought a LPTV station licensed to Mesquite.

In late November 2020, a pair of Christian-themed siblings would cease broadcasting. Various reasons were tied to the decision, which came following the 2018 passing of Buddy Tucker. Now, the AM pair — plus an FM translator — are on their way to a new owner.

It has 1kw during daylight hours and just 27 watts at night, serving a small town due north of Augusta, Ga., on the north bank of the Savannah River. Soon, it will have a new owner.

It has a signal covering such communities as Ganado, El Campo and its city of license, Edna, Tex., located between Victoria and metropolitan Houston. Since 2008, it has had the same set of call letters and is known by locals as "96 Country." Soon, this FM will have a new owner.

In Central Florida, the Holler family is known for its automotive dealerships. Roger Holler is also known for his ownership of Marc Radio, which operates six radio brands in the Gainesville-Ocala market. Now, Holler can be fully associated with a daytime-only AM and its FM translator that can be heard in not Gainesville, Fla., but Gainesville, Tex.

It's a 2,300-watt Class A FM that's owned by an institution of higher learning, and on the commercial side of the MHz band. That's not stopped Meridian Community College from becoming the latest school to sell its broadcast facility, as it has just put its "Eagle" in flight. The buyer? A member of the Holladay family.

He’s been an active buyer and seller of media properties across Texas for more than a decade. Now, Gerald Benavides has completed a deal giving him ownership of a FM station licensed to the city of Stanton.

In the Florida Keys, there's a 680-watt Class A FM with a signal that hugs the southernmost city in the continental United States. In April 2021, a deal was struck that handed control of this station to James Day. Now, Day is bringing in another investor as the station builds a new brand it launched several weeks ago.

It's a 100-watt Class A FM serving a rural portion of Northeast Minnesota, with coverage of Grand Portage north into some of the most sparsely populated areas of Ontario. A new owner is awaiting FCC approval.
