For many years, it was a sister property of WMOB-AM, serving the city of Bay Minette, Ala., as a 10kw daytime operation that must power down at night to protect WBT-AM in Charlotte.

On November 20, 2020, the station ceased operations under Special Temporary Authority with the FCC, as Buddy Tucker, aged 90, decided to retire.

Now, the AM has finally found a buyer.

WTOF-AM 1110 in Bay Minette is being acquired by Noah Britt through his Tri City Radio operation based in Pascagoula, Miss.

WTOF will join WPMO-AM 1580 as stations owned outright by Tri City Radio, and he’s agreed to acquire the station from the Dave Miniard-controlled UM Enterprise, the current licensee of WTOF.

A $25,000 purchase price was agreed to for the station, dormant for two years. A 50% deposit has been paid by Britt.

The Bay Minette area is distant enough from Mobile where WTOF does not have city-grade service of the entire Mobile market. But, WPMO’s unique signal pushes toward Mobile’s southern edge. As such, there’s a possibility WTOF and WPMO could become simulcast partners.
