Travel between Pittsburgh and Chambersburg, Pa., and you’ll traverse Bedford County, home to two AMs, a pair of FMs and two FM translators offering News/Talk, Hot Adult Contemporary, Adult Standards and “B-Rock” to local listeners.
The stations are family owned and operated. Now, one brother is relinquishing his shares in the company.
A FCC filing made December 22 shows John Cessna agreeing to sell his 41% stake in Cessna Communications to his brother, Jay Cessna.
This would give Jay Cessna an 82% stake, and majority ownership, in an entity that is comprised of Classic Rock WBVE-FM 107.5, WRAX-AM and W293DF at 106.5 MHz, WBFD-AM and W254DF “News/Talk 98.7,” and WAYC “Star 100.9.”
These are the main radio station serving Bedford, with adjacent-market signals from 7 Mountains Media and WSKE-FM 104.3 in Everett, Pa., the lone other choices for listeners and advertisers.
Ownership of Cessna also included the late Leila Cessna, who died on November 30, 2015 at age 91.
