Boone Steps In To Assume FCC Media Bureau Leadership

For nine days, Rosemary Harold assumed the role of Acting Media Bureau Chief, as RBR+TVBR confirmed that Holly Saurer would be taking on a different position within the FCC but would not be exiting.

That change occurred while the FCC’s head was still Jessica Rosenworcel. Now that Brendan Carr is in control, Harold’s script has been pulled and the role has been recast.

Now Acting Chief of the Media Bureau is Erin Boone.

Boone also serves as Senior Counsel to Chairman Carr for issues before the Media and Enforcement Bureaus, effective yesterday; she previously served as Commissioner Nate Simington’s Chief of Staff and wireless advisor.

Before joining Simington’s team, Boone served as Deputy Division Chief in the Wireless Bureau’s Competition and Infrastructure Policy Division, where she led a team responsible for matters and rulemakings addressing mobile data and voice services, mobile spectrum holdings, and mobile broadband mapping, among others. She’s also served in the Enforcement and Wireline Competition Bureaus, and worked as Corporate Counsel for Federal Regulatory Affairs at T-Mobile from November 2005-June 2007.

Boone later worked at Clearwire, and at Level 3 Communications, before her time at the Commission.

The selection of Boone, as Acting Chief, comes alongside several other changes:

  • Jacob Lewis is now Acting General Counsel, rising from Associate General Counsel

  • Patrick Webre is now Acting Chief of the Enforcement Bureau. He has served in several other leadership roles at the Commission, including as Deputy Bureau Chief of the Space Bureau, Deputy Chief of the International Bureau, Bureau Chief, Associate Bureau Chief, and Chief Programs Officer in the Consumer & Governmental Affairs Bureau, legal advisor to the chief of the Media Bureau, and an attorney in the Wireless Bureau.

Additionally, Mark Stephens remains Managing Director of the FCC.

“I am grateful that these talented public servants have agreed to join me in leading the FCC’s work and ensuring that we deliver great results for the American people,” Carr said.  “They will play integral roles in carrying out the FCC’s important mission.  I look forward to drawing on their counsel and advice, and I am eager to continue our work together.”
