Bob Lacey To Retire, With Sheri Lynch Going Solo

He began his career in radio at the age of 19 when he took the nighttime slot at a 50kw Class A AM radio station in Charlotte. That was in 1971. At the end of January, Bob Lacey will retire, concluding his run as the co-host of the syndicated Bob & Sheri radio program.

Lacey shared the news on Monday, noting how he’d been considering retirement for more than a year. He says he finalized his decision over the holidays, and plans to spend more time with friends and family. He thanked listeners and his co-host, Sheri Lynch, his “longest-running partnership.”

After finding an audience after dark at WBT-AM 1110, Lacey moved to morning drive in 1977. In 1989, he shifted to what became WBT-FM and “Sunny 107.9,” as “All Hit WBCY” concluded its run. At Sunny 107.9, Lacey advocated for hiring Lynch as his co-host. She joined in 1992. The addition of Shari Lynch proved to be so successful that their show entered national syndication in 1996.

On April 30, 2021, Bob & Sheri were removed from the 107.9 MHz frequency as owner Urban One rebranded the station. Soon afterward, Beasley Media Group’s WKQC “K104.7” in Charlotte added the program.

Lacey and Lynch’s company, NOW! Media, will continue to syndicate the show, with Lynch remaining on board. No further details have been revealed.

A statement on the Bob & Sheri Facebook page stated, “We fully support his decision to hang up the microphone and spend more time traveling and relaxing with his family. We hope you join us in congratulating Bob Lacey on an incredible career in radio and television!”

As Lacey wraps up his tenure, the show will spend its final weeks celebrating his career with stories and reflections on favorite moments from his decades in radio.
