A Windsor Locks Mini-FM Is Sold By Gois

A heritage Class D AM serving the African-American community in greater Hartford has been using an FM translator with a signal covering the northern communities of Connecticut’s state capital, including the towns surrounding Bradley International Airport. Now, the station’s longtime owner is agreeing to sell that mini-FM facility.

Ivan Gois and his Gois Broadcasting are agreeing to sell W248CR in Windsor, Conn., to Conduit Communications.

A $275,000 purchase price has been agreed to, with Conduit making a $13,750 deposit that is being held by attorney Allan G. Moskowitz. At closing, $261,250 will be paid by wire transfer to Gois.

W248CR is presently the rebroadcast tower of WKND-AM, which airs a Classic R&B format after a short stint as a regional Mexican station. Gois has been involved with the station since fall 2007, when it worked with media broker Greg Guy in acquiring WLAT-AM and WNEZ-AM in the Harford market from the former Freedom Communications. A later deal brought WKND to Gois.

W248CR will continue to use one of the three towers associated with WKND through a lease agreement between Gois and Conduit. It’s a five-year deal, free of payment obligations for the first three years. Language in the APA indicates WKND is for sale, and could possibly shut down if no buyer or donation recipient is found by the end of 2028.

Serving as Gois’ broker in this transaction is JBMedia Radio Consulting & Brokerage.

Once Conduit takes control of the FM translator, a change in format will be on the way. That’s because Conduit is a non-profit religious broadcast entity that seeks to place a Christian Talk & Teaching format on W248CR.
