In late November 2022, the main NPR Member station serving Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley agreed to sell a Class A FM serving such Southern New Jersey cities as Vineland.
Now, WHYY is agreeing to say goodbye to another New Jersey FM — this time a facility with a mere one watt of power covering Hammonton.
The station is WNJS-FM 88.1, licensed to Berlin, N.J.
The buyer is Bux-Mont Educational Radio Association, licensee of WRDV-FM in Warminster, Pa., which serves Horsham and nearby Richboro, N.J.; and simulcast partner WLBS-FM in Bristol, Pa., which serves Levittown. W297AD, with 20 watts, brings programming to Center City and the west bank of the Schuykill River, home to both Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania.
As “Radio Delaware Valley,” WRDV boasts an eclectic format. “We play everything from the old standards of the 20’s and 30’s, thru the Jazz Age, the Big Band era, and the early days of Blues, Rock & Roll, and Country. Stir in some Beautiful Music, Gospel, Soul, and a little Polka, and you’ve got the recipe for some great listening!,” the WRDV website boasts.
How much is the Radio Delaware Valley team paying for 1-watt WNJS?
A $110,000 purchase price was agreed to, with a $16,500 deposit made to WHYY. The remainder is due in cash at closing.
