A Prairie Home For UND Stations

The University of North Dakota has opted to sell its big Class C2 NPR affiliate in Grand Forks, N.D.; a Class A also licensed to the city, and an FM translator covering a town in Minnesota.

Who’s the buyer? An entity already quite familiar with the three FM facilities.

UND is selling K202BK at 88.3 MHz in Thief River Falls, Minn.; Class A KFJM-FM 90.7 in Grand Forks and big 50kw sibling KUND-FM 89.3 to Prairie Public Broadcasting.

The deal is valued at $220,000, and brings the two FMs and translators into the fold at Prairie Public, which has been providing the NPR programming heard on the three facilities.

KUND and K202BK are NPR member stations offering classical music in the midday hours and after 9pm each weekday, and a variety of shows on weekends.

KFJM airs world and roots music during the day and jazz music in overnight hours.

Prairie Public Broadcasting is based in Fargo, N.D., and is led by President/CEO John E. Harris III.
