A Class A FM radio station licensed to cover the U.S. Virgin Islands’ territories of St. John and St. Thomas is being sold by Gordon Ackley, a longtime operator of broadcast properties in this English-speaking Caribbean commonwealth under FCC jurisdiction.
Ackley’s GARK LLC is agreeing to sell WIVI-FM 102.1, licensed to Cruz Bay, St. John but using a transmitter atop St. Thomas’ highest peak.
The buyer is John Patrick Yob-led STJ Media LLC. And, he’s paying $200,000 for a station that has offered Classic Rock as “Pirate Radio” in recent times.
If that surname is familiar, it is because Yob in 2019 made news as the sole party involved with Mitten News LLC. Now Yob has invested in a property that could make business trips rather beneficial, given the natural beauty of the USVI.
With Seth Williams of Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth serving as Yob’s legal counsel and Mark Balkin of Hardy, Carey, Chautin & Balkin acting as GARK’s attorneys, paperwork seeking regulatory approval of the deal has been filed with the FCC on its LMS.
Terms call for a $10,000 payment at closing. Monthly payments based on an agreed to schedule will then commence.
There is no broker associated with this deal.
From 1996-2017, the station used the WWKS-FM call letters.
