A New Roku TV Comes To Market, With Philips’ Help

For many Americans, Canadians and Mexicans, Roku is known as a key TV streaming platform. That said, in 2023 it set its sights on the television set marketplace in an environment where built-in free ad supported streaming television (FAST) channels are quickly capturing consumers and advertisers.

Now, the first in a new series of Roku-branded TVs are available for purchase, thanks to a partnership with Philips.

The newly launched Philips Roku TV features Philips’ proprietary Ambilight technology, which is coming to U.S. consumers for the first time with the Roku TV OS. As the companies see it, this makes television viewing “more immersive, colorful, and dynamic than ever.”

Ambilight uses intelligent LED lighting built into the back of the TV to project colors onto the wall in real time, matching the action on screen.

“At Roku, we’re constantly pushing the boundaries of what TV can be for our customers,” said Tom McFarland, Vice President of Roku TV. “With Philips Roku TV featuring Ambilight, we’re transforming the viewing experience — bringing every moment, every beat, and every game to life in a way that feels more immersive, vibrant, and unforgettable.”

Roku has been partnering with Smart TV manufacturers like Philips, TCL, Westinghouse, etc. to sell Smart TVs since 2014. In 2023, Roku began selling its own proprietary TVs, which include the Roku Select, Plus, and Pro Series lines.

RBR+TVBR incorrectly reported in its original distribution of this story on October 1 that this model was Roku’s first TV. We regret the error.
