HOUSTON — A facility exchange agreement is in the works that sets the stage for a move of a Tropical-formatted Spanish-language operation branded as “La Calle.”
It involves Daij Media, and two religious broadcasting licensees.
Serving the Houston market, perhaps one of the most diverse in America with respect to Hispanic culture, is KJOZ-AM 880 in Conroe, Tex., and FM translator K273AL at 102.5 in Houston.
As of today, they serve the market as “La Calle.” This will soon change.
On August 11, licensee Daij Media engaged in a transaction with Centro Cristiano de Vida Eterna, partnering with Aleluya Broadcasting Network to get the swap done.
Centro seeks to assume KJOZ-AM. In return, FM translator stations K243BO in Roma, and K254DU in Freeport would go to Daij as K201IY in Houston would go to Aleluya.
There is no monetary consideration involved in the asset swap.
When the deal is done, “La Kalle” will move to the K254DU facility at 98.7 MHz, serving the southern portion of the Houston DMA and cities including Pasadena and Galveston.
At the same time, it sets the stage for “La Kalle” to be simulcast on K24BO at 96.5 MHz in the small town of Roma, west of the McAllen metropolitan area.
