From the start of 1989 through early 2003, the station that is today “97.1 The River” served Atlanta as WFOX. Today, an AM using FM translators to reach listeners across the metropolitan area has brought back the “Fox” branding to the market.

So, what Atlanta FM that has was branded as “The Fox” across the 2010s is being sold? One must look to the Mitten State for the answer.

WFDX-FM 92.5 in Atlanta, Mich., a small community along state route 32 due east of Gaylord, is being sold by William Gleich — ending a difficult three-year tenure as the licensee of the 100kw facility that is presently silent under FCC Special Temporary Authority.

Mr. Gleich, who has used the on-air name “Bill Curtis,” agreed to purchase the station from Northern Radio of Petoskey for $180,000 in March 2021. Now, Gleich is spinning WFDX to Northern Christian Radio.

The selling price for Gleich: $175,000.

NCR is based in Gaylord and is led by Executive Director Pat Scott. It used the services of Kathleen Victory at Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth, while the legal counsel for Gleich is Sally Buckman of Lerman Senter PLLC.

With WFDX, NCR adds to a group of 10 full-power radio stations and four FM translators located across Michigan.

WFDX is a Class C1 100kw facility that when operating can be heard from Cheboygan to Houghton Lake.

From February 2003, through summer 2018, WFDX aired a Classic Hits format as “The Fox.” It signed on the air in 1989 as WAIR-FM under the ownership of Rick Stone.
