An attorney in Scottsdale, Ariz., who grew up in Michigan, had always wanted to own a radio station. In December 2018 that dream became a reality with his $285,000 purchase of an AM and FM translator in the heart of the Empire State’s Finger Lakes wine region.
Now, Tim Stratton has decided to part ways with WYLF and W230CZ at 93.9 MHz, one hour south of Rochester, N.Y.
With “Familiar Favorites,” WYLF has been airing a Classic Hits format heavy on 1960s and 1970s soft rock.
What happens next for WYLF will be up to Genesee Media Corp., led by Brian McGlynn.
He’s agreed to purchase the stations in a deal brokered by George Kimble of Kozacko Media Services, the broker who represented Stratton when he purchased them.
And, Stratton is selling them for $260,000 — some $25,000 lower than his purchase price.
Genesee Media will add WYLF-AM 850, licensed to Penn Yan, N.Y., and FM translator W230CZ to WDNY-AM & FM in Dansville, N.Y., due west of Penn Yan and Keuka Lake; and WRSB-AM 1590 in Brockport, N.Y., to the northwest of Rochester.
Stratton will remain the owner of his one other station, WOKR-AM in Canandaigua, to the north of Penn Yan.
