There’s a new senior programming leader at Cumulus Media, and she’s being heralded as “a key resource” for the company’s 40 radio stations offering Adult R&B, Classic Hip-Hop, contemporary R&B and Gospel to audiences across the U.S.
Now VP of Urban Formats at the company led by CEO Mary Berner is Kathy “KB” Brown.
Brown is based in Charleston, S.C., and joined Cumulus Media in 2017. While she’s gaining responsibilities in her new role, she’ll continue to serve as Program Director and an on-air personality at contemporary R&B WWWZ-FM “Z93 JAMZ” and sibling WMGL “Magic 107.3” in the South Carolina market.
Brown said she’s excited to join the Cumulus senior content leadership team. “I am fortunate to support a stellar group of Urban programmers who oversee legendary stations. We will continue our legacy of excellence.”
Brown previously served in similar roles for iHeartMedia-owned KATZ-FM & KMJM-FM in St. Louis. She’s also been a programming assistant for WVEE “V103” in Atlanta under CBS Radio and worked at Radio One in Washington, D.C. and Baltimore as its VP/Regional Program Director and Operations Manager, overseeing seven stations.
“By virtue of her veteran major-market leadership skills and perennial high achievement, KB became the clear choice of both our programming leaders and her peers in the Cumulus Urban fleet,” said Brian Philips, Chief Programming Officer at Cumulus. “Kathy already wears much programming responsibility gracefully and successfully in her Charleston role and in the region. This confirms our trust in her proven steady guidance and her stellar reputation within Cumulus.”
