Telos Alliance has set its sights on the international marketplace for its newest line of products devoted to “audio observability,” and the annual IBC Show in Amsterdam, which starts Friday (9/11), will shine a major spotlight on the offerings.
As Telos Alliance sees it, audio observability extends monitoring in a modern IP-based media environment by continuously examining audio and the information associated with it. Rather than relying solely on manual checks, systems can automatically verify attributes such as format, signal health, metadata, compliance, and speech intelligibility across large numbers of audio flows, the Cleveland-headquartered company notes.
The concept is becoming increasingly important as media organizations move toward larger and more complex IP-based distributed, cloud-based, and dynamically orchestrated production and delivery environments. Add to that MXL, multiple codecs, and the variety of essence containers in which audio is wrapped, and the resulting complexity does not scale for human monitoring, Telos Alliance argues.
As such, it sees automated, professional-grade audio analysis as an essential part of system-wide visibility and control.
“As media workflows become more software-defined, we have to rethink what monitoring means,” said John Schur, President of Media Solutions at Telos Alliance. “You may have hundreds or thousands of audio flows moving through an infrastructure, and nobody can listen to all of them. The goal of observability is to give engineers useful information about what is happening across the environment, automatically and at scale, so they can identify problems before they reach the audience.
