NAB Show New York opens on October 21 at the Javits Center, and Orban Labs is heralding an update to its OPTIMOD 5950 HD product it says will “revolutionize” Emergency Alert System alerting for broadcast radio stations across the U.S.
In a partnership with Sage Alerting Systems and with the cooperation of DNAV, Orban Labs will demonstrate to NAB Show New York attendees how next-generation emergency alerts can be hosted directly inside the OPTIMOD offering.
For the demo, SAGE next-generation EAS software is hosted in an Orban OPTIMOD 5950 HD processor. “The demonstration shows an advanced version of Sage’s web interface as well as all other EAS functions a radio user needs, including IPAWS CAP reception and RWT generation,” Orban notes.
Harold Price, President of Sage Alerting Systems, adds, “This is the first full demonstration of the capabilities detailed in the NAB petition to the FCC last year, to allow broadcasters to support EAS in software rather than dedicated EAS hardware. With this demo, we show a full implementation of EAS as add-in software running on an Orban Labs audio processing platform.”
The demonstration will include also generating and receiving EAS alerts.
Orban Labs Worldwide VP of Sales Mike Pappas notes it is not available for purchase as of yet, with FCC approval pending. However, the regulatory nod is expected soon.
